Happy Friday SHRM Volunteer Leaders,On behalf of SHRM's Government Affairs team, we are looking forward to seeing all our wonderful volunteer leaders for the Volunteer Leaders' Summit (VLS) in Washington, D.C. next week!
For those not aware, an incredible component of the annual VLS is the rare chance to visit the offices of your U.S. Senators and Representative on Capitol Hill on Thursday, November 15, along with other SHRM advocates from your state - many of whom have shared that the Capitol Hill visits are the highlight of their VLS experience. This is the unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with those elected to serve you in Congress and share how various workplace issues are directly impacting you as an HR professional, your employer and employees, and your communities.
If you have never participated in a meeting with a lawmaker, not to worry: Our amazing Government Affairs team will provide policy updates on pending HR-related proposals on Capitol Hill, as well as best practices on how you as HR professionals can share with lawmakers how these proposals will impact your workplace. During breakfast bright and early on Thursday morning, Nov. 15, you and other volunteer leaders from your state will sit together to learn about the legislative issues you will be discussing in your meetings - timely issues like workplace flexibility and tax reform - and the best ways to communicate effectively with your congressional members and their respective staff. (Note: Capitol Hill appointments are scheduled by SHRM in advance).
Please don't miss this amazing opportunity to join the HR advocacy army as we raise our voices in the nation's capital to make a difference! Once you register to participate in Advocacy Day activities, SHRM's Government Affairs team will schedule appointments on your behalf with your respective lawmakers.
